It's the ecology, stupid

I woke up today to this story in the news...

The European hornet, or vespa crabro, helps make wine by kickstarting the fermentation process while the grapes are still on the vine.
NPR

Almost in the same breath, the news of drought across the country and the globe. And they're dredging the Mighty Mississippi in North East Louisiana just to keep this ancient highway navigable to modern barges. Can a story like this about a charismatic (and huge!) wasp and a delicious grape help people begin to develop an ecological consciousness?

I hope so.

One can never underestimate the complexity of the matrix we swim in. We are part of the landscape's community and benefit from the work of countless individuals, populations and processes.
